“Cherubim Panopticum” 2026 (work in progress) The project consists of a pair of 1,75 meters wings assembled from porcelain plates, each bearing the gaze of a real person. The work refers to the image of cherubim — beings covered with eyes — but here the divine is replaced by the human: instead of mystical omniscience, a multitude of private gazes is gathered into a single form. Porcelain emphasizes the dual nature of this image: it is fragile yet durable, sacred yet decorative. Each plate becomes a fragment of someone’s identity, while the wings themselves become not a symbol of ascension, but a body of collective vision. As the viewer looks at the object, they also find themselves being watched. The project engages with the theme of distributed surveillance in contemporary society, where everyone can be both observer and observed. At the same time, individuality is not erased: the overall form is made up of many personal histories. In this way, the image of the cherub is reinterpreted as a metaphor for a new power of the gaze, emerging not from above, but from the sum of human eyes.
